ABSTRACT
Most biomedical engineering students learn how to design devices—but very few learn how those devices survive outside the lab. This talk explores what really happens between a promising prototype and a product that maybe, someday, possibly reaches patients. Drawing on nearly two decades working with neurotechnology startups, investors, and translational programs, JoJo Platt will walk through the business, regulatory, financial, and human bottlenecks that determine success or failure. Students will learn how venture capital works in neurotech, why most “great ideas” stall, how founders assemble winning teams, and what early-career engineers can do now to position themselves for high-impact roles in industry. The session combines real-world observations, candid lessons learned, and interactive discussion.
